Flight reservation expired before your visa appointment?

What an expired flight hold means, what to verify and how to request a fresh genuine reservation.

Holds are time-limited

A flight reservation is often held for a limited period. When it expires, the old PDF may still exist, but its reference may no longer show an active booking. The hold's duration depends on the airline and availability; a requested validity period is not a guarantee that an airline will keep a particular seat indefinitely.

Check before submission

If your appointment moved, look up the reference through an available airline or booking channel or ask the issuing service to confirm its status. Compare the new appointment date with your intended travel dates. If the hold is inactive and your checklist expects a current reservation, request a new real reservation based on your latest plans.

Never alter the old reference

Do not change dates in a PDF or invent a new booking code. An updated confirmation must come from a real booking. If you have already submitted your application, follow the consulate or application centre's process for providing updated documents rather than assuming a replacement can be added later.

Requirements vary by destination and visa category. Check the relevant embassy or consulate’s current checklist. A reservation is not a paid ticket, is not valid for travel, and does not guarantee a visa.
